You can apply for a parking permit online, or by post/in person depending on the permit type. Durham City’s CPZ lets residents, visitors, business and construction permits be applied for online, while CPAs mainly use telephone, post or in person.
| Permit type | How to apply | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Resident permit | Apply online | Durham City CPZ permits are virtual, so you won’t receive a paper copy. You can also apply by post or in person at The Parking Shop for paper forms. |
| Visitor permit / scratchcards | Apply online | In the CPZ, residents can buy virtual visitor vouchers or paper scratchcards. |
| Business permit | Apply online | Available online in the Durham City CPZ. |
| Construction permit | Apply online | Available online in the Durham City CPZ. |
| Carer’s permit | Apply by post/in person | CPZ carer’s permits can’t be applied for online; you need to contact The Parking Shop for a form. In CPAs, carer’s permits are by post or in person. |
If you’re in Durham City CPZ, the online system lets you create an account, upload your documents, and then pay once the application is approved. If you’re outside the CPZ and using a CPA, the relevant application form is needed and you apply by telephone, post or in person depending on the permit.
