If you’re working age, East Lothian says most housing-cost help has to be claimed through Universal Credit instead. You can make a new Housing Benefit claim only in certain cases, and you can either apply online or download a claim form.
| How to apply / who can claim | Details | Link |
|---|---|---|
| New Housing Benefit claim | You can claim Housing Benefit if you’ve reached State Pension Age, or if you’re in supported, sheltered or temporary housing. That includes temporary accommodation arranged by the council, a refuge for survivors of domestic abuse, or supported housing such as a hostel that provides care, support or supervision. | Housing Benefit |
| Apply online for Universal Credit | If you’re working age and need help with housing costs, you must claim through Universal Credit and apply online for that. | Housing Benefit |
| Download a Housing Benefit claim form | East Lothian provides a claim form you can download and complete. | Housing Benefit |
If you think you may be entitled, East Lothian says to claim as soon as possible because delay may mean losing benefit. If you need help or advice with the claim, you can contact the council for support.
