Newham uses two main household bins at street level: a green bin with an orange lid for recycling, and a green or black bin for non-recyclable rubbish. If you don’t have space for a wheelie bin, Newham uses orange sacks for recycling and black sacks for rubbish where no refuse bin has been allocated.
| Waste type | Put it in | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Recycling | Green bin with orange lid | Put recycling in loose, not in black sacks |
| Recycling, if no bin space | Orange sacks | Tie bags up properly before putting them out |
| Rubbish / non-recyclable household waste | Green or black bin | Food waste can go here too |
| Rubbish, if no refuse bin allocated | Black sacks | Use for household rubbish only |
For when to put them out, Newham asks residents to put bins or bags out by 6am on the day of collection, at the edge of the property, such as next to the gate or at the end of the drive. Newham generally collects recycling weekly and usually on the same day as rubbish.
