Oxford’s bin collections are split by waste type, and the main bins are put out on different schedules depending on what goes in them. Here’s the current setup from Oxford’s waste guidance.
| Waste type | Container | Collection frequency | What to put out / key rules |
|---|---|---|---|
| Food waste | Green food caddy or shared red bin | Weekly | Food waste only. You can put either size out for collection. |
| Mixed recycling | Blue bin or clear sacks | Every other week | Items must be clean and dry. If your blue bin is full, put extra recycling in a clear bag on top of or beside it. You can put out up to three branded clear sacks per collection. |
| Household rubbish | Green wheelie bin or lilac sacks | Every other week | Bin lids must be fully closed. If your green bin is full, don’t put out extra rubbish. Up to 3 lilac sacks are collected. |
| Garden waste | Brown bin or eco sacks | Not stated in the available guidance | Only for people signed up to garden waste collections. Oxford only collects from the address you signed up with. |
Oxford also says to put bins and sacks out by 6am on collection day but no sooner than 6pm the night before, and to place them at the boundary of your property where the crew can easily access them. If you want, you can check your collection dates and sign up for reminders via Oxford’s bin collection information page: check your collection dates.
