Oxford includes support for carers through the Council Tax Reduction Scheme, where a carer premium may apply if you receive Carer’s Allowance or Carer Support Payment. Oxford also points people to local advice services that can help check what benefits and support you’re entitled to.
| Support available | What Oxford says |
|---|---|
| Carer premium | Applies where an applicant or partner is entitled to Carer’s Allowance or Carer Support Payment. The applicant must have made a claim for one of these. |
| Run-on after caring stops | The carer premium continues for eight weeks after caring ends, or after entitlement to Carer’s Allowance or Carer Support Payment ends. If the person being cared for has died, the eight-week period starts on the Sunday following the death, or on the date of death if that was a Sunday. |
| If both partners qualify | Two carer premiums are paid if both the applicant and their partner qualify. |
| Local advice and support | Oxford lists advice centres and organisations that offer free, confidential help with benefits, money, debt, employment and housing. This includes Citizen Advice Oxfordshire, Age UK Oxfordshire, Agnes Smith Advice Centre, Barton Advice Centre/Oxfordshire Welfare Rights, and Rose Hill and Donnington Advice Centre. |
