If the fly tipping is on private land, Preston says the landowner is responsible for removing it. The council can still investigate it, but you should contact the landowner first.
| Situation | Who to contact |
|---|---|
| Fly tipping on private land | The landowner |
| Fly tipping on canals | Canals & River Trust |
| Fly tipping on rivers, streams or brooks | Environment Agency |
| Fly tipping on Community Gateway land | Community Gateway Association |
If it’s a domestic waste problem at a residential property, Preston also says you can report a build up of waste on private land through the council’s online form: Report a build up of rubbish on private land.
