You can apply for a council house by joining Kings Lynn’s housing register online. The main thing is to check you’re eligible first, then submit the application with your supporting details and evidence.
| What you need | Details |
|---|---|
| Eligibility | You must be over 18, have annual income and savings less than a third of the average property price in the area, and have a local connection. |
| Local connection | You qualify if you’ve lived in the borough for at least three of the last five years, or have close family living in the borough for five years or more. |
| Information to provide | National Insurance numbers for everyone over 16; all addresses you’ve lived at during the last six years; landlord contact details where applicable; proof of identity for all household members; proof of household income; proof of the addresses you’ve lived at during the last six years; and details of any health issues that affect your housing need. |
| Time to complete | About half an hour to an hour, longer if you have a large family. |
| Saving and returning | You can use “finish later” and come back with a user ID and password, but the form is only saved for ten days. |
| What happens next | Once all supporting documents are in, Kings Lynn says it can take six to eight weeks to hear back. If accepted, you’ll get a reference number and be placed in a band: low, medium or high. |
