Scottish Borders has two different bus pass routes depending on the pass you need: school transport for pupils, and free bus travel cards for other eligible residents. You can apply online in either case, and I’ve put the options below.
| Pass type | How to apply | Link | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| School bus pass | New P1 and S1 pupils only need to apply for school transport. If a child needs a replacement pass, the school notifies the transport team and a £5 payment is made through Parent Pay. | School transport | If a pass is lost, the pupil should get a temporary pass from the school first. |
| Over 60s bus pass / Young Scot card / disabled concessionary travel card | Apply, renew, or replace online through the Get Your NEC website. | Free bus travel and Young Scot cards | If you can’t apply online, Scottish Borders accepts applications via its online contact form. |
| Young Persons’ Free Bus Travel | For a child under 16 with no existing NEC or Young Scot NEC, apply on the getyourNEC website. | Free bus travel and Young Scot cards | If you don’t have the required documents or can’t apply online, you can contact Customer Advice and Support. |
If you mean a school bus pass, the key point is that applications only need to be made for new P1 and S1 pupils, or if you move home. If you mean a general concessionary bus pass, use the Get Your NEC route above.
