Stoke uses a housing register and an allocations system for council homes. To apply, you’ll need to have a full housing needs assessment and then join the council’s active housing register if you’re eligible.
| What happens | Details |
|---|---|
| Assessment | Stoke may offer you a full housing needs assessment if you’re living in unsuitable accommodation. |
| What you’ll be asked | Where you want to live, the type and size of property you need, and whether you prefer a council, registered provider, or private landlord. |
| Eligibility | You must demonstrate a housing need to be eligible for council accommodation. |
| Priority system | Stoke uses a banding system; people required to move because their home is being demolished get Band 1. |
| How homes are allocated | The applicant in the highest band is offered the property. If more than one applicant is in the same band, waiting time in that band is used. |
| If you don’t qualify | You may be able to apply through a housing association instead. |
If you’re looking to apply, the page titled Apply for a council house is the relevant place to start. Stoke also says tenants who want to remain in social housing can be supported to make an application to the council’s housing register or a housing association list.
