In Stoke-on-Trent, you generally put out your grey bin for general waste, blue bin for mixed recycling, and brown bin for garden waste if you’re subscribed to that service. For extra black-bagged household waste, Stoke says you can leave up to two additional black bags beside the grey bin on the right collection day, but only within the time window below.
| Waste type | What to put out | When to put it out |
|---|---|---|
| General waste | Grey bin; you may also leave up to two additional black domestic sacks beside it | On your scheduled collection day only; bags no earlier than 7pm the evening before and no later than 6am on the day of collection |
| Mixed recycling | Blue bin | On your scheduled recycling collection day |
| Garden waste | Brown bin, if you’ve subscribed | Collected under the garden waste service; collections run from the start of April until the end of March each year |
| Extra side waste | Up to two black bags next to the grey bin | Only on collection days, within the 7pm / 6am window |
Stoke-on-Trent is clear that anything left out days early, or anything that won’t fit in a normal-sized refuse sack, can be treated as illegal dumping. If you want, I can also pull together what goes in each bin by item type.
