You apply differently depending on the year group, but for most school place requests in Edinburgh you start by checking your catchment school and then sending the request form to the school you want. For in-year moves, Edinburgh says to apply directly to the school using the request form, and for P1/S1 entry there’s a separate school placing request process.

A couple of practical points: Edinburgh recommends applying to your catchment school first, and for in-year requests you should include proof of address if you’re applying to your catchment school. If you’re requesting a non-catchment school, it will only be granted if there’s a place available.
